 Hot Issues at the EEOC

Thanks to our Sponsor

Join us for a presentation on July 16, 2019 by EEOC Senior Trial Attorney, Tom Rethage, who will discuss the latest and greatest from the EEOC’s perspective, including cases being litigated and settled and the EEOC’s enforcement and regulatory priorities.  The presentation will cover issues like:

  • Pay equity and EEO-1 reporting
  • Pending U.S. Supreme Court cases involving LGBT rights and charge filing requirements
  • ADA issues related to reasonable accommodation, such as transfers and leaves of absence
  • Intersection of EEOC and NLRB guidance on joint employment and integrated employers (Browning Ferris)
  • Adverse employment actions, reasonable accommodation, and retaliation
  • Parental leaves

Tom offers a unique perspective on these issues, having practiced as a defense-side labor and employment lawyer before joining the EEOC.  At the EEOC, where he has worked since 2011, Tom has enforced, including through litigation, federal anti-discrimination statutes.

Tom Rethage is a Senior Trial Attorney with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  He has worked for the EEOC since January 2011, enforcing federal equal employment opportunity laws through the filing and prosecution of civil actions in federal court.

Before joining the EEOC, Tom worked as an associate at Ballard Spahr LLP in Philadelphia PA from 2006-2011. There, he counseled employers and defended employment-related litigation and union matters.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  He was on the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Barristers and the Order of the Coif.  Tom’s undergraduate degree is from Dickinson College, where he earned a BA in Political Science and History, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
