SEPA President


To the SEPA SHRM Community (Current AND Future Members),

Thank you for the privilege to serve as your President for 2019-2020.  SEPA SHRM has been a long-standing and valuable component of my career and relationship development in Southeastern Pennsylvania and I am honored to be elected.

SEPA SHRM is a professional networking association, but it’s so much more than that.  SEPA SHRM is an active community of engaged Human Resource (HR) professionals at all stages of careers and life.   Our organization is a shared space of friends and colleagues who actively work together to promote better workplace environments.

That type of cooperative, collaborative environment has never been more important.   The long-standing rules of HR are being challenged, and that is a good thing.  It’s timely for us to question standard practice and be more creative.   It’s helpful for us to revisit the principles of HR and establish for future generations that a career in the HR Profession is highly valued, highly desired and a place for the highly skilled professional. We are an active voice to address real challenges, such as pay equity, skilled workforce development and establishment of corporate culture.

SEPA SHRM provides this environment – where volunteers from our board and  program committees come together to address the most topical issues and to provide education and engagement opportunities for all our members.  SEPA SHRM is a volunteer organization, we work because everyone works.  We welcome ideas, engagement, commitment, and willingness to help build or staff a program.  If you want to be more involved, we welcome your participation.

SEPA SHRM’s mandate is to lead and promote the HR profession.   We focus our programming on the types of life lessons that make us better colleagues, but ultimately better people.  Mentoring programs, professional development, life lessons so that we can share experiences on the basics of being successful in human resources – these are all opportunities and discussions you can find in the highlights of our SEPA SHRM social platforms, and in networking with SEPA SHRM members.

Our year will be busy but we look forward to making it interesting and fun!   SEPA SHRM hosts two signature events every year:

Spring –Member Networking Event – this event gives us an opportunity to recognize our own professionals who inspire us.

Fall – Human Resource Legislative Summit (HRLS) – a full day conference co-sponsored by SEPA SHRM and Ballard Spahr, LLP focused on legal updates, engaging keynote on topical workplace concerns and networking - connecting attendees, sponsors, and community/non-profit partners.  A fundraiser for the SHRM Foundation helps generate support to fund scholarships for professionals pursuing advanced study in Human Resources & seeking ongoing research on workplace challenges.  

I hope that you will consider attending these events and actively engaging as a member of SEPA SHRM.  Not a member?  Please consider joining.  We offer membership levels for professionals and students.  We want this to be a welcoming shared space.

Given everything that is going on in HR and the workplace, the need for constructive engagement and exchange is more important than ever, and I’m counting on your involvement.  Challenging times are among the most interesting, creating opportunities and inspiring creative approaches to support a world that promotes workplaces that work for employers and employees.   I am honored to serve as your President, and look forward to working with you.
